Job Description

Job Overview The American Red Cross is currently seeking a Regional Communications Manager for our Gold Country region, supporting Sacramento, CA, and its surrounding communities. The role focuses on communicating and marketing functions that drive regional business objectives, publicize the mission of the Red Cross, support revenue generation, and educate the public about Red Cross services. Responsibilities Media Relations: Work with regional communications staff to execute a media relations strategy, maintain media contacts, write and distribute news releases, pitch stories, respond to inquiries, serve as a spokesperson, train staff and volunteer spokespersons, review support requests, and develop effective communications strategies. Public Affairs and Crisis Communications: Support regional, divisional, and potentially national disaster public affairs activities; provide training to disaster public affairs volunteers; and may deploy to support disaster response operations outside the home region. Social Engagement: Implement a social media engagement strategy aligned with regional priorities and the enterprise-wide strategy; produce relevant local content for regional web and social platforms. Marketing Support: Coordinate cross‑functional resources to develop and deliver marketing programs; support integrated campaign/program development in collaboration with Field Marketing and Regional Financial Development. Internal Communications: Support the development of strategic and change‑management communications. Volunteer Engagement: Support the regional communications director in building, engaging, and supervising a regional communications and disaster public affairs volunteer team. Individual contributor: Work independently and provide subject‑matter expertise; instruct or coach other professionals when necessary. Qualifications Education: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or related field (required). Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience (required). Skills & Abilities: Good understanding of the industry; outstanding oral and written communication skills with proven knowledge of AP Style; effective critical thinking and strategic planning; strong organizational and multi‑tasking skills; proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Cision/TrendKite or similar media monitoring software; experience managing professional social media platforms (required); comfortable using website content management systems and other marketing tools; willing to serve as a media spokesperson (required); strong teamwork and collaboration skills. Travel: May require 10% – 25% travel. Competitive Advantages Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Experience using website content management systems and other marketing tools. Compensation The salary range for this position in California is $70,000 – $78,000.
